Fleet & Business Mobile Tyre Fitting - Bolton, Wigan & Greater Manchester

Trades vans, courier fleets, taxis and small-business car fleets โ€” kept on the road by one named operator. I'm Simon, owner of Breakdown Man, based in WN5 Wigan. One number, out-of-hours welcome, invoice on terms. No portal, no per-van fee, no membership lock-in. 07549 676 220.

Who We Look After

Most of the fleet work Breakdown Man does is the same shape: a small or medium operator running working vehicles where every hour off the road costs money. The point of mobile fitting for a fleet isn't novelty โ€” it's keeping wheels turning. A few of the patterns we see most:

  • Trades vans & LCVs โ€” roofers, plumbers, sparks, plasterers, joiners running Transits, Sprinters, Vivaros, Crafters, Boxers and Berlingos out of yards across Bolton, Wigan and the surrounding boroughs. Tyres swapped at the yard before the morning round, or at the customer's job site if the van's gone out with a slow leak.
  • Courier & multi-drop fleets โ€” Amazon DSP-style operations, parcel carriers, last-mile electric Transits and e-Vivaros. Overnight fitting is normal here โ€” the vans are on the road all day and need to be ready for the depot sort first thing.
  • Taxi & private-hire firms โ€” Hackney, PHV saloons, MPVs and increasingly hybrid and EV cars. Tyres get pulled by high mileage and uneven kerbing; Simon can do a single car at the rank or a batch at the operator's lock-up.
  • Small-business car fleets โ€” sales pool cars, company estates, perk hatches kept by a handful of staff. Manager or office puts the booking through, driver doesn't need to fill out a form.
  • Care, mobile-trades and field-service operators โ€” outreach workers, support vehicles, mobile beauty and pet-care vans โ€” anything that turns up at a customer's home in livery and needs tyre work without taking a day out of the diary.

Vehicle-wise, the same scope as the rest of the tyres service applies: cars, vans and light commercials up to 3.5 tonnes, 4x4s and SUVs, caravans (single and twin axle), motorhomes, EVs and hybrids. See the van & LCV tyres page for the load-rating detail, and the dedicated EV / hybrid tyres page if your fleet is going electric.

How Fleet Booking Works โ€” One Number, No Portal

Let's be straight about it: there is no fleet portal, no driver app, no SLA dashboard. Breakdown Man is a one-operator outfit, and that's exactly why fleet customers ring โ€” you get the person doing the work, not a coordinator passing tickets sideways. What that looks like in practice:

  1. First call โ€” ring 07549 676 220 with the basics: how many vehicles, typical sizes / types (van, taxi, hybrid car, etc.), where they're normally based, when work needs to happen (overnight, daytime, ad-hoc). Simon agrees terms on the phone โ€” invoicing arrangement, day-rate for regular work if relevant, escalation number for out-of-hours.
  2. Per-job bookings โ€” call, text or WhatsApp the tyre size, the reg, the location and a window. Simon quotes the job on the same call. No purchase orders to chase, no per-job forms.
  3. On-site โ€” Simon arrives in the BDM van with the tyre. Single tyre swap on a car or van is typically 20โ€“30 minutes; a full set is closer to an hour. Driver doesn't need to be present if the vehicle's at a yard with access โ€” keys-on-the-wheel arrangements are common.
  4. Paperwork โ€” invoice goes to the business email after the job. Bank transfer on agreed terms. No card terminal needed, no driver signature ritual.

Worth being honest about the limits, too. Because this is a one-van operation, the simultaneous-call ceiling is one job at a time. If you've got a five-van morning round-up planned, we'll book a window and Simon will work through them. If a national fleet manager needs to dispatch fifty depots tomorrow, that's an ATS-style network's job, not ours โ€” and we'll tell you so on the call rather than over-promising.

What's Outside Scope for Fleet Work

A fleet enquiry tends to come in mixed โ€” "we run vans and a couple of HGVs, can you cover both?" Worth being clear up front so nobody books out a van slot for a vehicle Simon can't service. The same scope applies to fleet jobs as private ones โ€” only the invoicing changes.

Yes โ€” fleet vehicles covered
  • Cars (saloon, hatch, estate, MPV, prestige)
  • Vans & light commercials up to 3.5 tonnes
  • 4x4s & SUVs (road, AT, mud-terrain)
  • Caravans (single & twin axle, kerbside)
  • Motorhomes
  • Electric vans and hybrid cars
Outside scope
  • HGV / lorry tyres (over 3.5t GVW)
  • Agricultural / tractor tyres
  • Motorbike / scooter fleets (incl. delivery mopeds)

Mixed fleets are normal โ€” ring with the spec, Simon will tell you which vehicles he can take and which need a separate provider. Always better to hear that on the call than waiting on a fitter who can't do the job.

Pricing & Day Rates

Tyre prices for fleets work the same way as private jobs: quoted on the call, no call-out fee, payment after the work is done (on the business invoice rather than a card on the day). We don't publish a price list because tyre costs move week to week and the right tyre depends on the vehicle, the size on the sidewall and which brand tier you want.

For regular fleet work โ€” booked rounds, scheduled seasonal swaps, recurring overnight slots โ€” Simon will agree a day rate on the phone. The rate depends on volume, location and tyre tier; it's negotiated per fleet and isn't published. The principle is that recurring work earns a better rate than ad-hoc โ€” but the actual number gets agreed once, not haggled per job.

What we will not do, ever:

  • Publish from-prices or price ranges that won't hold for your vehicle.
  • Offer finance, pay-monthly, 0% interest-free or pay-after-fitting credit. Breakdown Man does not run a finance scheme โ€” payment is on the agreed terms after the work is done.
  • Display RAC, REACT or NTDA accreditations โ€” Simon doesn't hold those badges and won't claim them.

Areas Covered for Fleet Work

The BDM van's based at WN5 Wigan โ€” ten minutes off the M61 J5/J6 corridor and within striking distance of the M6 J21โ€“J26, M58, M62 and M56. That puts most fleet depots, taxi offices, courier hubs and yards across Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside and Cheshire inside an hour, often less. The two town hubs hold the full postcode-and-suburb detail:

  • Mobile Tyre Fitting Bolton โ€” BL1 to BL7, Horwich, Westhoughton, Farnworth, Lostock, Bromley Cross, the M61 J5/J6 corridor. Strong on trades fleets out of the Horwich and Lostock industrial areas.
  • Mobile Tyre Fitting Wigan โ€” WN1 to WN8, Standish, Hindley, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Pemberton, Orrell, the M6 J21/J25/J26 corridor. Courier and parcel fleets clustered around the J25 and J26 industrial estates.

Wider region โ€” Manchester city, Salford, Bury, Stockport, Liverpool, St Helens, Warrington, Preston, Chorley, Skelmersdale, Chester โ€” Simon will quote on the call with a realistic ETA. For fleets in those areas with regular work, the day-rate arrangement makes the travel time work for both sides.

FAQs โ€” Fleet & Business Tyre Fitting

Do you do fleet accounts or business invoicing?

Yes. For trades, couriers, taxi firms and small-business car fleets, Simon invoices the business directly and takes bank transfer on agreed terms. There's no formal account-opening process, no per-van fee, no minimum-spend lock-in.

How do we book fleet tyre work โ€” is there a portal?

No portal. One phone number โ€” 07549 676 220 โ€” Simon picks up. WhatsApp is fine too for sending tyre sizes or photos of damage. For regular fleets, Simon keeps your vehicle list and tyre history in his own notes.

Do you do day rates for regular fleet work?

Yes, for fleets booking regularly โ€” overnight courier rounds, taxi-office batches, planned seasonal swaps. Day rate depends on volume, location and tyre tier; it's negotiated per fleet on the phone and isn't published.

Can you do out-of-hours so our vehicles aren't off the road?

Yes โ€” that's the main reason fleets ring. Evening, overnight and weekend fitting means the van or taxi is back on the road for the first job of the next shift. Out-of-hours doesn't carry a separate fee structure for fleets.

Do you cover HGVs, trucks or agricultural vehicles?

No. Breakdown Man covers vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes โ€” cars, vans and light commercials, 4x4s and SUVs, caravans, motorhomes, EVs and hybrids. HGV / lorry tyres need a commercial fleet specialist; agricultural / tractor tyres need an ag-tyre service.

What about motorbikes or delivery scooters?

Outside scope โ€” different rim profiles, different machine setup. Courier fleets running cars and vans are fine; pure delivery-scooter fleets need a motorcycle-specialist mobile fitter.

Are you RAC / REACT / NTDA accredited?

No. Breakdown Man doesn't hold those badges and doesn't claim them. What you get instead is a named owner-operator (Simon), insurance, BS AU 159f-compliant puncture repair where the casing allows, manufacturer-spec load-rated tyres for working vans, and direct accountability.

Which areas do you cover for fleet work?

Bolton (BL1โ€“BL7), Wigan (WN1โ€“WN8), Greater Manchester, plus Salford, Bury, Stockport, Liverpool, St Helens, Warrington, Preston and Chorley reachably from the WN5 base โ€” usually within the hour on the M6, M61, M62, M58 and M56 corridors.

Can you handle multiple vehicles in one visit?

Yes โ€” if a yard, taxi rank or courier depot has several vehicles waiting, Simon will work through them in one visit. Book a window on the call and we'll agree the running order with whoever's on site.

What if a driver breaks down out on a job?

Same number, 07549 676 220 โ€” Simon goes to the vehicle wherever it is, as long as it's reachable and safe to work on (not a live motorway lane). For a fleet on terms, the job still gets invoiced; the driver doesn't need to settle on the day.
